Most/all of you reading this already know our story, but here is a short version again if you really want to know.
We met all the way back in September 2003 when we both enrolled at the University of Portsmouth for a degree in Computer Science. Jay only picked Pompey because he liked the colour of the prospectus and Katie because she didn't want to be too far from family cooked dinners (Simon Bax never did fully forgive Katie for going to Uni in blue town).
Katie, being the good student, arrived early for a seminar one day and sat down waiting patiently when Jay in his baggy jeans came in and chose the empty seat next to the "pretty girl". But it was not the start of the romance, both of us were in other relationships and besides-Katie couldn't always understand him with the strong Brummie accent.
Through that year, we always sat in lectures together along with our other life long friends. In 2004, Katie abandoned the boys and took part in Forensic Biology degree instead, but stayed in touch via MSN messenger, with lots of late night chats.
Over nearly a decade (oh my god!), nights out saw more and more outrageous flirting, and years later, we actually gave in and began our relationship in 2012.
Over our near 15 years together we've done a lot and been to many places-but still have a lot on our bucket lists. We've brought our lovely house, adopted our fluff ball, covered US states among other summer holiday trips, and helped each other through the trials and tribulations of adult life.
For my 40th birthday, Jay gifted me a trip to Iceland to see the sight I've dreamt of for decades-The Northern Lights ('causes I'm a geek), and it was here, under this natural phenomenon that Jay decided to ask a question he'd spent years saying he wouldn't, and asked me to marry him. Being pitch black in the middle of an Icelandic national park, I couldn't see that he actually had a ring and thought he was joking, but once over the shock- I accepted and can't believe I finally get to marry my best friend.
Thank you to each and every one of you who have come with us on our journey, and for joining us on this day.
We hope you have the party you know a Wellax night out to be. Eat, drink lots and sing and dance the night away!
